Independent engineering studio — websites, systems & AI

Thirty years building software for household names. Now building for yours.

One experienced engineer, not an agency. I build websites — and the systems behind them: dashboards, customer portals, booking and quoting tools, automation. Senior judgement on the work, and a monthly fee instead of a five-figure invoice.

01 — Approach

What you actually get

Four things decide whether a small business site earns its keep: how quickly it goes live, how it behaves on a phone, how fast it loads, and who looks after it once it's up. Here's how each one is handled.

Send me your logo, your photos and a rough idea of what you want to say. You review a working website, not a slide deck.

02
Built for phones first
Most of your customers arrive on a phone, often on a poor connection. That's the case I design for, then scale up to desktop.

Fast because it's built properly
No page builder, no plugin sprawl, no template you're stuck with. Hand-written code, served from whichever data centre is closest to your customer.

Looked after, not left
Domain, SSL certificate, security patching and hosting are all handled. You'll never get an email telling you something has expired.

02 — Process

You see it before you pay for it

01

A ten-minute conversation

What your business does, who you're trying to reach, and what the site actually needs to achieve. No pitch, no obligation.

02

A free working prototype

Before you commit to anything, I build a real mock-up on a live link so you can judge it rather than imagine it. One page, one round of feedback, usually back inside two working days.

03

Refine, then launch

Three rounds of revisions to get it right, then it goes live on your domain and stays maintained every month afterwards.

03 — Work

Sites I've built and still run

Not mock-ups — these are live, in production, and I maintain them. Every plate below is the actual page rendering, not a screenshot of one.

04 — Systems

A website is usually where it starts

If the thing that would actually save you time is a booking system, an internal dashboard, a customer portal or a quoting tool, that's the same skillset — and most of my thirty years went on systems, not brochure sites. If you can describe it, there's a good chance I can build it.

01

Business systems & dashboards

Reporting that pulls from the tools you already use, so nobody spends the first Monday of the month rebuilding the same spreadsheet by hand.

Systems

02

Customer portals & tools

Booking, quoting, calculators, account areas, stock and order lookups — the working parts most small-business sites send people somewhere else for.

Systems

03

Automation & integrations

Forms, email, CRM, invoicing and documents joined up so the administrative middle of your business stops being done by hand twice.

Pro & Systems

04

AI where it genuinely helps

Reviewing where AI would actually save you time, choosing and setting up the tools, training your team, and building private agents on GPT or Claude when an off-the-shelf one won't do.

06 — About

Who you'll actually be dealing with

I've spent about thirty years writing software, most of it on large systems where mistakes were expensive. Along the way I've delivered work for Ford, BMW, McDonald's, Intel and Plusnet.

Promptly Built is me applying that to businesses that have never been able to justify an agency. When you email, I'm the person who replies. When something breaks at nine on a Sunday, I'm the person who fixes it.

I use AI heavily in how I work — for research, prototyping and testing — and it's a large part of why I can charge what I do. But it's a tool in an experienced pair of hands, not a replacement for them. Every decision about how your site is structured, secured and maintained is one I've made deliberately.

Quick answers

A scripted helper, not an AI

Hello. I can answer questions about pricing, what's included, hosting, update time or the AI side of things.
